Aquaman Evan

Evan loved the ocean our final day! We started out in the tide pools and as the tide came in Evan couldn't be stopped! He was charging towards the ocean and we had to really keep an eye but mostly hands on him to stop him from crawling into the waves! Evan's first vacation (and our first one in a while) was fantastic and very memorable.

We are now back from the beach a little worse-for-wear. James went down with a cold and Evan went down with Roseola. Now coming back Evan and I have the cold. Oh well what can you do? I have a feeling Evan will be a little better with the cold than with the high fever he had with Roseola, which spiked at 103.4.

Have a good weekend everyone! We are going to use ours to recover!

Today we went for a walk on the beach and I didn't put Evan in his bathing suit as he is not too fond of the ocean.

As we were walking along the beach at low-tide I noticed some tidal pools. Evan was very interested and soon I had him stripped down and he enjoyed the warm pools of water.

Tomorrow we will take him out to enjoy the tidal pools with some more appropriate baby swimmers on.

Much Needed Vacation

The middle of last week Evan started getting fussy and was warm. I took his temperature and there began our first real sickness for Evan. For 3 days his fever ranged from 99.0 to 103.4. Two pediatrician trips and a cathedar (eek) later we learned it *may* be Roseola.

We thought we may have to delay our trip down to Hilton Head but luckily Evan's fever was down by Saturday evening. Then on our trip down lo and behold, a nice rosy rash all over Evan's trunk and on his forehead. So the pediatrician is right, the common Roseola is what Evan had. He no longer has a fever and the rash isn't too bad and doesn't seem to bother him.

One virus down, 999 billion left to go.

James and I need some rest after being up all hours the past few days with a feverish baby. Thank goodness Evan went back to sleeping through the night as soon as his fever went away.

We took Evan to the beach today and he was not very enthused. He seems to enjoy the sand but was absolutly terrified of the ocean water. The picture of him in the sea water below was the first time he saw it and from there on out he wanted nothing to do with it and to be as far away as possible.

So for now we are hanging back by the dunes.

Mom's Night Out

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

I had a Mom's Night Out! It was my Moms group's first MNO and we had a lot of fun. They are a great bunch of ladies, very supportive. They also have wonderful families and babies.

We went to Khanki, a local hibachi japanese restaurant.

Last week I bought Evan his "Fall" shoes. They are Stride Rite baby hiking boots in size 5 which was sized a little big for Evan to fit into them in October. They have the ankle support he will need when cruising and they will keep his feet warm when we are out and about in the Fall and Winter.

I might also get one more pair of Robeez, a convenient soft-soled pull on baby shoe. We have one pair he hardly used this summer because he went mostly barefoot.

Here is a picture of Evan in his Stride Rite shoes and another of him enjoying a box. Finally James and I were being silly and put a coffee filter on Evan's head. He didn't seem to mind.

Evan's 9 Month Well-Baby Visit

Evan's well-baby appointment was short and sweet because we had no shots and not many questions for Dr. Harris.

Here are Evan's stats:

Weight: 18 lbs. 14 oz.
Length: 28 3/4 in.
Head: 17 3/4 in.

So this means that Evan is:

Weight = between 10th and 25th percentile
Length = between 50th and 75th percentile
Head Circumference = between 25th and 50th percentile

So that is all good, he is catching up for sure after being in low percentiles since he was born. BUT none of those are that big a deal anyway, just interesting numbers.

Here is a picture of Evan's growing head of hair and another of Evan's emerging tooth.

Evan's Silly Faces

Evan makes funny faces to me all day long, especially when he is eating.

He will scrunch up his face like this and crawl towards us or just sit there doing it. He is very funny and goofy and he makes me laugh so much. Such a joy!

Tomorrow is our pediatrician 9 mos appt. so I will update you on his weight and height.

Evan is nine months old today! My last update included a lot of milestones so I won't list those again. We bought him a Leap Frog Learning Table today and he seems to enjoy it very much. It has some great ABC, 123 and other learning oriented songs as you play with the gadgets on the table.

It is also a safe place for Evan to pull up and stand, which is a nice thing here in our apartment.

Evan's nine month Pediatrician appointment is on Wednesday and I will update again then with his stats. The good news is he won't be receiving any shots so it will be all and all a more pleasant experience for both of us.

A Week of Significant Milestones

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Well, on the eve of Evan's 9 mos. birthday, we have had several milestones in a week.

In the beginning of the week I walked into Evan's room after he woke up from a nap and I found him like this.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

He pulled himself up all by himself.

Then midweek, he started babbling! He really hasn't babbled at all so far so this was very fun. He makes a noise like emah! emah! emah!

Then he was able to really start feeding himself with his Cheerios and puffs. He has had troubles before now with grasping the tiny puffs, but not now! Let those synapses fire.

And for Evan's finale this week, we finally have a TOOTH!!! I felt it this morning and can see it finally after so many months of suspected teething.

As soon as it is visible I will post a picture for you.

Have a great holiday weekend all!

Hurricane Katrina

There are babies suffering in the aftermath of Katrina. That alone is enough reason to make a donation. If you can't access the site right away, please keep trying.
