Drew's Baptism (almost a fiasco, but not quite)

Today was Drew's baptism and we had family come from as far away as the Netherlands. My parents, my MIL, My cousin Tracy and her husband, Chris and their three children, Sean(my godson and Evan's godfather), Will and Maryn. My friend Lindsay also came for the baptism with her 3 month old daughter, Abigail.

It was a rough start...

Everyone met at my house in the morning except for James' Mom. Unfortunately she became lost and ended up having to meet us at the Cathedral where the baptism was taking place.

Meanwhile I was giving a tour of my house to Tracy when I heard my Mom start screaming and then some general uproar and Evan started wailing. He had fallen down our stairs for the first time, rolled down half of them and landed face first on his big yellow Tonka dump truck that is always parked at the bottom of the stairs. He calmed down shortly but has a nice purple bump/line in the middle of his forehead. That was scary.

So we left for the Church in 3 cars. When it came time to exit, Chris, who was driving Sean and Maryn, couldn't get over because of some inconsiderate caveman in a mustang. So he had to continue on to the next exit. He called my Mom to tell him the intersection he ended up on, and she told him to turn LEFT. I didn't know this. He ended up in the next town over.

Meanwhile, we are supposed to be at the Church early to just talk to the priest about the baptism procedure, etc. The start of Mass the parents and godparents (Chris and Tracy) will be called up to affirm our faith and present Drew. So Chris is still not there and he finally calls to say that Maryn is covered in blood, face arms, hands, shirt. It turns out she was picking her nose and must have hit a blood vessel. (she is 4) and then when it started bleeding she grabbed a few napkins in the back and started wiping blood which smeared it all over the place. Chris looked in the rear view mirror and said it looked like she had been attacked by a dog or something. They cleaned her up and changed her into one of Will's shirts.

So Mass starts and they are cleaning her up outside. So Chris missed that part but made it just in time in the middle of the readings. It was very funny b/c the choir was singing a "Hallelujah" song when he did come in.

The rest of the day went well, THANK GOD. Drew was so cute and made the entire congregation laugh when he wiggled every time Father Jerry said his name. He also grabbed Father Jerry's face and tried to suck his nose when he was picking him up to show the Church their newest member. Many people came up to me after Mass and told me how cute he was and what a personality he had.

Drew still smells like a hippie from Marrakesh because the chrism is so hard to wash of their heads.

Thank you everyone for making such an effort to drive from hours away and take time out of your busy schedules for our family. Thank you for risking the wandering path, life, limb and nose.
